Special Study Programs:

S.M.A.R.T.S After School Program

     S.M.A.R.T.S (Science, Math, Arts, Reading, Technology, and Sports), led by community service workers, provides after school and summer break programming for year-round academic support for youth grades K-8. The program provides tutoring in reading, hands-on learning activities in natural science, the development of problem solving skills, and conflict resolution skills. The program is intentional in guiding youth toward positive values.

Teen Group Program

     The Teen Group is designed for teens ages 13-18. Year round programming provides opportunities for academic planning and achievement, career exploration and development, and personal and social skill development while building youth into contributing community leaders. Our goal is to encourage, guide, and enable teens to reach their potential using artistic expression, cultural and historical outings, and small peer group meetings.

Computer Lab & Resource Center

      Technology is everywhere – knowing how to use it well is important. The computer lab and learning resource center is designed to provide academic and career support for participants in our After School Program, GED, and Teen Program. Community Residents of 43207 are allowed to use the service for their educational and employment goals as well.

Sports & Recreational

     Team Sports activities and programming are offered to our youth program participants and to youth residents in the 43207 zip code area. South Side Settlement intentionally creates a team atmosphere to teach respect, sportsmanship, tolerance, creativity, leadership, cooperation, a most of all an opportunity to participate in a fun and safe environment.

     Team Sports include: Basketball, Spring/Fall Soccer, Baseball and Softball, Volleyball, Flag Football, Bowling, and Cheerleading.

Tutoring Program

     A vital component of our programming is academic support. We offer tutoring support in Math, Science, Reading, and Language Arts. Homework help is provided in our after school program.

Introduction/Description:

     South Side Settlement Youth Programs serve youth ages 5-17, focusing on academic and social support essential to successful youth development. Youth participate in activities that develop positive self esteem, build character, and reinforce the importance of education and social connections that prepares them to succeed in both school and life.

YOUTH PROGRAM GOALS

      Assist youth to establish healthy study habits, academic goals, and improve academic performance Teach and introduce social skills and values that lead to positive character development and social interactions. Expose youth to enrichment activities that produce well rounded individuals. (well being, physical, health)
