Special Study Programs:
Infant Room (6 weeks - 15 months)
Everyone loves a baby, but not everyone understands a baby and his or her development. Glenwood Center for Early Childhood emphasizes the individual through affection and stimulation. Our program stresses security and familiarity through the following: familiar and nurturing adults, familiar settings, regular touching, playing and communication. A daily report of your infant’s day goes home each night giving you the pertinent information about your child’s day.
Our infant room is licensed for 10 infants ages 6 weeks to 15 months. We maintain a lower than state mandated ratio of 1 adult to 4 children or 3 adults to 10 children for our total group size. We supply the following foods: baby food, baby cereal, and iron-fortified formula.
Our infant room has a seperate crib room, which allows the children to nap on their own schedule without disruptions from other children who may be playing.
Sunshine Room (15 months- 2 years)
This room has a combined age group of older infants and younger toddlers. In this room you see many children beginning to do activities on their own. They begin to learn colors, shapes, letters, numbers, songs, poems and riddles.
The sunshine room is licensed for 10 children ages 15 months to 2 years old. It is our policy and practice to maintain staff/child ratios required by state law, or lower whenever possible. Our sunshine room maintains a ratio of 1 adult to 6 children, in groups of no more than 12 children to two teachers.
Green Room (2-3 years)
In our Green Room, children begin to explore and discover more things. Self help skills such as dressing, feeding, and toileting are enriched in this classroom. Activities in the green room tend to be based around colors, numbers, letters, shapes, and name recognition.
It is our policy and practice to maintain staff/child ratios required by state law, or lower whenever possible. Our green room maintains a ratio of 1 adult to 7 children, in groups of no more than 14 children to two teachers.
Blue and Purple Rooms (3-4 years)
Our preschool rooms allow children to explore in a variety of ways. Their day consists of child-directed center play and activities that include teacher-directed activities, small-group activities, and large group activities.
It is our policy and practice to maintain staff/child ratios required by state law, or lower whenever possible. Our preschool rooms maintain a ratio of 1 adult to 12 children, in groups of no more than 24 children to two teachers.
Orange Room (pre-kindergarten)
Order to prepare for school we feel that it is essential the children experience learning through hands on activities to keep children actively involved. The children in the orange room learn to recognize letters, explore beginning sounds, understand number concepts and develop character awareness through group, individual and learning center activities.
It is our policy and practice to maintain staff/child ratios required by state law, or lower whenever possible. Our pre-kindergarten rooms maintain a ratio of 1 adult to 14 children, in groups of no more than 28 children to two teachers.
Summer Programs (kindergarten- 3rd grade)
Our school age program is offered to children who have completed kindergarten through the third grade. Weekly field trips are planned, including weekly swimming at the YMCA next door. Tuition for our summer program includes all field trip expenses and meals (breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack).
This summer our school age children are following the travels of Flat Stanley. Flat Stanley is traveling with the kids and their family and reporting back on their travels.
Introduction/Description:
At Glenwood Center, we believe that God created each of us to be a unique and special person. We respect and encourage each child’s unique personality as we strive to meet each child’s social, emotional, physical, and educational needs. We believe that children learn best when they experience something first-hand, therefore we encourage children to try new things, and do many day-to-day tasks for themselves. Children gain a great deal of satisfaction from learning to do new things as they grow, but we are always ready to help when a child asks. We provide a variety of learning experiences for children - a large variety of materials for art, many early literacy and language experiences, and opportunities to develop small and large motor skills. In all areas, we seek to build strong values in children - respect for themselves and other people. We consider ourselves partners in your child’s growth and development.
