R.I.S.E.
(Raising Intellectual Scholars of Excellence)
To help promote literacy, CDCFC in cooperation with parents and guardians at Linden Recreation Center have implemented a preschool literacy program called R.I.S.E., designed to improve the vocabulary and reading skills of Head Start children through intentional activities of their caregivers.
In the video, teachers are demonstrating to parents how to read to their children in two formats. The first teacher is reading straight from the book. She introduced the author and began to read the story in its entirety. The second teacher is demonstrating how to read to your child without actually reading from the book. She is reading using the pictures that are in the book and allowing the reader to create the story using their vision.
Early Head Start
All children are special at CDCFC and none more so than the tiniest ones in our care. Our Early Head Start (EHS) program is designed for the optimum care, education and comfort of infants/toddlers 0 – 3 and pregnant women.
EHS program highlights include:
♥ Prenatal and post partum education and support
♥ Parent/child activities
♥ Early language and literacy activities
♥ Creative Curriculum®
♥ Nutritious breakfast, lunch and snack daily
♥ Infant/toddler classroom setting
♥ Teachers are loving, well-trained, dedicated Early Childhood Education professionals
♥ Child/teacher ratio is 4 to 1
We follow the Four Cornerstones of Early Head Start:
♥ Child Development: Provide age appropriate and culturally responsive activities and services.
♥ Family Development: Strengthen families’ ability to support and nurture their child’s learning and growth.
♥ Staff Development: Provide continuous training for staff to ensure high-quality services.
♥ Community Building: Increase families’ awareness and use of community resources, and promote leadership among parents.
Child Care
CDCFC offers affordable, full day child care for working families that do not qualify for Head Start services. Private payment and Child Care Subsidy (formerly Title XX) are accepted, and payments may be made on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly schedule, according to your needs. Services are provided at one of three locations throughout the city: Deshler (East) and Lindbergh (West) child care centers are located in modular units and our Canal Winchester (Far East) center is located at The Meadows apartment complex.
Much like CDCFC Head Start, our child care programs provide the highest quality Early Care and Education services for 3 to 5-year-olds:
♥ Proven education programs that prepare your child for school and life success
♥ Nutritious daily meals and snacks provided
♥ Small classroom sizes; child/teacher ratio is 20 to 2
♥ Services for children with special needs and/or disabilities
♥ Educational field trips
♥ Parent involvement activities
♥ Teachers are loving, well-trained, dedicated Early Childhood Education professionals.
Child Care Partners
Our agency partners with numerous privately-owned child care programs throughout the Greater Columbus Area, including KinderCare, Mother’s Helper and the YWCA. This option is primarily available for families who either do not qualify for Head Start services or who live in communities which do not have a Head Start center nearby. CDCFC partner programs share our commitment to service excellence and like CDCFC centers, are fully licensed by the State of Ohio.
In the Child Care Partnership program:
♥ Children receive primarily the same Head Start services as those in our Center-Based option
♥ Nutritious daily meals and snacks are provided
♥ Average child-teacher ratio is 15 to 2
♥ Only Head Start services are available; Early Head Start is not provided at this time
Other Services
CDCFC provides several special services in addition to our standard programs:
♥ Food is Elementary, a healthy eating/nutrition program in collaboration with Local Matters, an area nonprofit committed to the growth and consumption of local food. Our work with Local Matters is targeted towards creating healthy children and adults, and eradicating child obesity. Children are given classroom and take-home instruction that teaches them about the true origins of food and the benefits of healthy eating/lifestyle. Veggie Vans travel to centers weekly, providing families with low-cost, healthy, fresh produce. This on-site accessible option is especially helpful for families, since accepted forms of payment include the Ohio Direction Card (food stamps).
♥ Cub/Boy Scouts
♥ Youth mentoring.
Introduction/Description:
CDCFC Inc. provides high quality comprehensive development programs and services to income-eligible children and their families. Children may attend full or half-day preschool classes that focus on developing school readiness skills along with providing health nutrition and other social services throughout program enrollment. To meet the unique needs of our families CDCFC offers a variety of program options. Early Head Start (EHS) is a federally funded community-based program for low-income families with infants and toddlers and pregnant women. Its mission is simple:
♥ to promote healthy prenatal outcomes for pregnant women
♥ to enhance the development of very young children and
♥ to promote healthy family functioning.
EHS evolved out of Head Start’s long history of providing services to infants and toddlers through Parent Child Centers Comprehensive Child Development Centers Migrant and Seasonal Head Start programs and other early child development and family support efforts serving families with very young children. Recent advances in the field of infant development make EHS services so important.

♥Our programs must be accountable to the community in which we work, and the dollars invested must have maximum benefit.
♥It is the responsibility of each team member to recruit and keep satisfied customers.
