Special Study Programs:
Infants (ages 6 weeks to 18 months)
In the infant classrooms, the children follow their own individual schedules as they grow. Teachers assess age-appropriate growth and plan activities based on each child's developmental needs.
Toddlers (ages 18 months to 3 years)
Teachers in our toddler classrooms focus on the individual needs of the children, while helping them learn to become part of a group. Language arts, art, and conceptual activities are planned within a free-flowing schedule suitable to the needs of these young children. Learning centers focus on reading/numbers, development of physical skills (large movement and fine motor skills), home living and creative play.
Preschool:
Children ages 3 to 5 spend time on self-help, social skills, cognitive development and Kindergarten-readiness. This is done through activities such as: arts & crafts, group time (singing and reading), home living, cooking, field trips, large muscle play (inside and outside), fine motor skill activities, learning centers and classroom computers. Our Kindergarten Readiness Program helps prepare preschoolers for a smooth transition into their first year of school. The Kindergarten Readiness teacher helps children recognize their numbers, letters, and many other areas that help with being prepared for success in Kindergarten and the school years beyond.
Introduction/Description:
Central Community House (CCH) is a private non-profit settlement house that has maintained a "quiet tradition of caring" since 1935. Today, CCH offers a variety of programs designed to strengthen family, neighborhood and community life within an identified service area that includes most of the southeast quadrant of the county. CCH is the only settlement house within this area.
A United Way agency, CCH is a multi-service community center focusing on youth and family programs and neighborhood support and development initiatives. By highlighting the assets of our community residents, we serve as a bridge of transition between dependency and self-sufficiency. Our primary aim is to address the issues that promote stronger children, stronger families and ultimately, stronger communities. Today, we provide a wide variety of programs and services at both our main facility and the child care center.
Last year Central Community House served over 6,800 individuals.
CCH is generously supported by individuals, churches, businesses and community organizations. We also receive funding from the United Way of Franklin County, the City of Columbus, the Franklin County Department of Job and Family Services, USDA, ELI (Early Learning Initiative), and the Senior Options/Senior Services Levy.
CCH is a proud member of the Columbus Federation of Settlements and is accredited by United Neighborhood Centers of America. The Central Community House Child Care is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

Graduates of the Child Care Center have the option to continue enjoying our community center by attending the Central Community House Afterschool Program or enjoying other school-age and family programs. Central can be a lifelong part of your child’s life.
