The Senior EHS Engineer (60% - 70% Environmental, 30% - 40% Health and Safety) is responsible for leading the Environmental, Health, & Safety (EH&S) Compliance Monitoring Programs to build a proactive Safety culture. This role supports all aspects of the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Management System at the J&J Surgical Vison, Milpitas, California as well as other J&J locations. As an influential member of the different leadership teams, you will collaborate with internal business customers and domain authorities to ensure compliance with regulations and implementation of innovative EH&S techniques to identify EHS risks proactively.Are you interested in joining a diverse team where we believe Safety is a commitment from the heart, and we take an active interest in others and look out for their safety every day? Apply today!<h2>Key Responsibilities (other duties may also be assigned):</h2>Under limited supervision and in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws/regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, this position:<ul><li>Ensure a high level of EHS performance for the site.</li><li>Provide technical expertise for all EHS programs: environmental (waste, air, water, tanks), ergonomics, contractor safety, machine safety, biosafety, industrial hygiene, radiation safety, and emergency preparedness. </li><li>Prepare and submit all Environmental Reports such as BAAQMD Annual Data Updates, CUPA HMBP, CARB State Programs: Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reporting, and Refrigerant Management Program, including gathering/verifying/validating data, reviewing for potential exemptions, and conducting threshold and release calculations</li><li>Ensure in compliance with federal, state, and local EHS regulations, as well as J&J EHS Standards including Management of Change.</li><li>Maintains the processes and activities associated with the ISO 14001 certification program, including communications, policies and procedures, reports and metrics, individual projects, and objectives.  </li><li>Partner with local management to develop and implement a site CAPA process to address EHS program deficiencies, including CAPA effectiveness confirmation and ensure EHS regulatory compliance.</li><li>Bring global best practices into the site and actively share site perspective, knowledge and lessons learned to contribute and support a best-in-class professional level of EHS globally.</li><li>Set and monitor goals/objectives/assignments, provide adequate coaching/counseling to site functional leaders on EHS programs/processes via dashboards & reports.</li><li>Review, update, develop required EHS programs including, but not limited to: IIPP, HMBP, HAZCOM, EAP, SOPs, LOTO/HECP, Confined Space Programs, Fire Prevention Programs, Biosafety, Lab Safety, Hot Works Program, Radiation/Laser Safety, Warehouse Safety and Chemical Inventory.</li><li>Perform ergonomic risk assessments, conduct machine safety risk assessments, and develop job safety analysis for automated and manual job functions.</li><li>Perform analysis for reporting of violations or potential violations to duly authorized enforcement agencies and J&J's corporate offices as appropriate and/or required.</li><li>Perform routine EHS assessments, utilize the J&J Program Reviews, Assurance Audit, and Self Assessments to identify program specific deficiencies and areas of risk.</li><li>Lead incident investigations for all reported injuries, including First Aid and Good Saves.</li></ul><h1>Qualifications:</h1><h2>Education:</h2><ul><li>Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree is required; advanced degree or focused degree in EHS, Engineering, Science or related field is preferred.</li></ul><h2>Skills & Experience:</h2>Required:<ul><li>Minimum of 3 years of related work experience</li><li>Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS) experience with emphasis on Waste Management (Hazardous Waste, Medical Waste, Non-Hazardous Waste), Air, Water (Stormwater, Drinking Water, Wastewater), Tanks, Chemical Management, Biosafety, Laser Safety and R&D experience</li><li>Experience identifying, evaluating, and controlling EHS risks in the workplace</li><li>Proven track record to quickly interpret complex regulatory issues and provide recommended course of action</li><li>Experience in planning, implementing and managing EHS projects with adherence to budget and schedule</li><li>Ability to make sound decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions and J&J Credo</li><li>Comfortable operating in a fast-paced dynamic environment with minimal supervision</li><li>Proactive, reliable and communicative EHS professional</li><li>Proficient in MS SharePoint and MS Office software programs</li><li>Capable of multi-functional assignments</li><li>Ability and willingness to travel to other locations</li></ul><h2>Preferred:</h2><ul><li>Manufacturing/R&D experience in a highly regulated environment</li><li>Relevant experience in consulting will be considered.</li><li>Technical/working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations</li><li>Technical experience in diverse EHS areas</li><li>Certifications in CIH, CHMM, CSP, and/or ISO 14001:2015 Lead Auditor</li><li>Capability to energize and inspire others towards higher performance and execution</li><li>Passion about the role, a positive “can do” attitude</li><li>Demonstrated project management skills</li></ul><h2>Other:</h2><ul><li>This position may require up to 10% domestic travel</li><li>A requirement for physical exertion (lifting or moving objects >25lbs/10Kg in weight)</li><li>Requirement for long periods of sustained visual focus and concentration</li><li>Expectation to use a computer on an almost continuous basis, every day</li></ul>External Interactions: <ul><li>Conducting and hosting all planned and unannounced internal and external inspectors and auditors according to the requirements in the site-specific procedure.</li><li>Responding to and reporting to external complaints and inquiries according to the site communications policies and procedures.</li><li>Corresponding with regulatory agencies to acquire, modify and renew permits required by federal, state, and local laws and regulations.</li></ul>Company disclaimer:<ul><li>Company management reserves the right to add, delete or otherwise alter assigned duties at any time.
