Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
• EDUCATION- Degree that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering
• or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc
• OR Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in 1 above, plus appropriate experience or additional education
• The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as: (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance
• Grade Determinations: Statistician (Health)- GS-12 Specialized Experience: Equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service, that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) needed to successfully perform the duties of the position and that is typically in/or related to this Statistician Health GS-1530-12 position to be filled
• This experience must be supported by your resume to be creditable
• Specialized experience includes: Knowledge of research policies & procedures and of the research protocol approval process
• Expertise in conducting geriatric human subject research
• creativity, flexibility and adaptability to independently conduct the work required of each complex project

• or equivalent doctoral degree Preferred Experience: Has greater than one (1) year exp
• as Research Health Science Specialist or Research Assistant/Associate coordinating & managing a single- or multi-site human subject research and clinical quality improvement (QI) studies
• Experience using technical writing styles and proper English grammar
• ability to edit professional, technical manuscripts
• Experience in project coordination, recruitment of subjects, subject interviewing, data collection, basic data analysis and report writing (for project management purposes), creation and maintenance of the research protocol's standard operating procedures (SOP) manual, and training other staff
• Experience using SAS, R, or other compatible data analysis software
